About Nickel West
Nickel West (NiW) is fully integrated mine-to market business. With a culture rich with technical know-how, high efficiency and focused on innovation, Nickel West employs over 2,500 people from five operations across Western Australia comprising of nickel underground and open-cut mines, concentrators, a smelter and a refinery. Nickel West also has plans to expand its operations with new mines in the Northern Goldfields. We have a deep commitment to sustainability and have recently opened Australia’s first nickel sulphate plant in Kwinana, providing key materials for EV batteries.
About the Role
We currently have an opportunity available to join our NiW Environment Team as an Environment Specialist supporting the asset in managing the Environmental Management Systems (EMS), to support Nickel West on its journey to energise our future through innovation and excellence.

Reporting to the NiW Environment Superintendent, you will provide subject matter expertise and guidance to the operations on improving and embedding our Environment Management System, coordinate internal and external auditing and reporting and lead improvement projects to enable continual improvement of the EMS. You will also provide support to the environment team to ensure sustainability requirements are met, supporting NiW in its goal to build a better world.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive team that embodies our Charter Values. The role is based in Perth on a standard Monday to Friday roster, however, flexible work options will be considered. Travel to our operations will be required from time to time to support verification activities.

As the Environment Specialist , you will be responsible for:
  • Ensuring Asset level compliance for external and internal auditing and reporting through collaboration with operational teams;
  • Ensuring asset alignment with BHP standards and guiding;
  • Supporting the NiW Environment team in meeting sustainability requirements;
  • Coordinating the delivery of the EMS improvements and ensure supporting process and procedures are imbedded in the Asset;
  • Delivery of improvement projects including maintenance and improvements for support documentation and procedures;
  • Support implementing of an integrated HSE Management System;
  • Supporting the Asset in meeting assurance requirements; and
  • You will also maintain productive interface with the NiW HSE Team working as a seamless team in all aspects.
About You
To be successful in the role, the following skills and attributes are desirable:
  • Experience with systems governance including Environmental Management Systems and processes;
  • Experience working with BHP HSE systems such as EDMS, 1SAP & Event Management;
  • Experience in preparing informative, data driven reports;
  • Experience in auditing and assurance process with an ability to identify improvement opportunities;
  • Excellent initiative and the ability to work autonomously and across different regions;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills to achieve project outcomes; and
  • Tertiary qualifications in an Environment-related discipline is preferable
