Position Overview:

The Portfolio Manager plays a role in supporting business development activities to win new customers for the Bend site and meet growth targets for the business. The successful candidate will influence the work mix at the site to balance demand and capacity through project expansion and transfer to late development and commercial sites.

Functions:

  • Manage project portfolio health, proactively identify project candidates to transfer to downstream sites, and balance early development and clinical trial manufacturing activities.
  • Serve as the primary contact for new business development inquiries, including Request for Proposal (RFP) reviews and coordination with the quotations group.
  • Ensure that proposals issued address RFP requirements and technical challenges facing prospective customers, and that the proposed scope is based on sound scientific rationale.
  • Host prospective customer visits and travel off-site for client engagement visits involving business development prospecting activities.
  • Approve project pricing and margins for proposals up to $250,000 USD proposal value.
  • Actively participate in the Site Leadership Team representing New Business Development.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in science or a related science field is highly preferred or a combination of relevant education/experience.

Experience:

The ideal candidate has five (5) or more years of early clinical pharmaceutical product development experience, which includes direct client interaction, preferably with direct experience with enabling formulations for low solubility molecules.

Equivalency:

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.

Competencies:

  • The candidate should have customer interface experience and strong negotiating skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the Company’s 4i’s: Integrity, Intensity, Innovation, Involvement.
  • Proficiency in the English language is required.
  • Proficiency in using MS Office applications (including Project) and comfortable with computer interfaces.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) is preferred.
  • Strong presentation and negotiation skills are a plus.
  • Strong data analysis skills and the ability to establish a lasting process for the Project Management team to monitor project phases and stage gates and to track and anticipate the progression of complex pharmaceutical development projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to cultivate networks internally as well as with customers.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.

Physical Requirements:

Position requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about office locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time; manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights of 10-35 pound pounds; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and type for prolonged periods of time; visual acuity to use a keyboard, computer monitor, operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time; ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time.
