Sexual Health Promotion Practitioner [United Kingdom]

As part of the Sexual Health Promotion (SHP) team you will play an integral role in the Derbyshire and Derby City Integrated Sexual Health Services (ISHS).

This practitioner role will be based in Florence Nightingale Community Hospital, Derby City, and will require regular travel across the city to meet the service and client needs.

The ISHS service provides a wide range of specialist services and interventions designed to improve the sexual health and wellbeing of the local population of Derbyshire and Derby City.

Whilst sexual ill health can affect us all, sexual health inequalities are concentrated in many vulnerable and marginalised communities. Therefore, this role will hold a unique and highly valuable position of working closely with these communities to develop and deliver evidence-based interventions aimed at addressing these inequalities.

The post holder must demonstrate the capacity to consider the impact of wider social determinants of health, such as economic deprivation or rural isolation, as well as individual factors, such as age, ethnicity, or sexuality, which may make someone more likely to experience sexual ill health.

It is with the knowledge and understanding that the SHP Practitioner will work with the Health Improvement Manager, and wider service leads to develop highly effective targeted interventions to those most in need across Derby City.

The role will primarily be delivered through development and delivery of:
  • Community engagement with key partners and those working directly with at risk groups to identify local population need and opportunities for partnership working.
  • RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) sessions delivered to meet the needs of our high-risk groups.
  • Effective evidence-based one-to-one work with individuals who have concerns around their sexual health and who may also exhibit risk-taking sexual behaviour (full training will be given).
  • Community outreach testing delivered in areas of high need/within high-risk communities. Provision of asymptomatic (no symptoms) sexual health testing options, information and support around testing and referrals into clinical services.
  • Sexual health training, events, support, and an on-going point of contact for local networks of professionals.
