We know there are lots of BI roles going, but ours has a difference. Stepping into this role you can hone your BI craft further – working agile, with stacks of data, alongside talented team members and with a business that continually transforms.
Our purpose at The Warehouse Group (TWG) is ‘Helping Kiwis live better every day.” TWG has become a Kiwi household name, and we proudly recognise the role that we play in communities throughout New Zealand. We are the largest general merchandise retailer in NZ with over $3 billion in sales, and employing over 12,000 people across The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery, Noel Leeming, Torpedo7 and TheMarket.com. To ensure we can adapt quickly to ever-changing customer needs, we’ve adopted an agile structure with a focus on collaboration, productivity, and speed-to-market.
Essentially your role centres around developing data and reporting structures that support self-service for insights. We will rely on your developer and data handling skills to an extent, to delve into the data and prepare it for usable visualisations that help our data tell its story. We foresee you supporting the build capability while we move our reporting to Snowflake. At the end of the day, our stakeholders can make data-driven decisions thanks to your hard work.
Sitting within the Insights, Data & Services Chapter Area (and reporting into the BI & Visualisation Chapter Lead) you will be allocated to a squad, where you will work collaboratively with a cross-functional team to deliver outcomes identified as part of the Quarterly Business Review process. The beauty of our agile way of working allows you to build greater business acumen and understanding as across time you will likely move to different squads, hence learning a different pocket of our business and building new connections / stakeholder relationships.
Key to your success will be ensuring that the right information is available to the right decision makers at the right time and in the right context to drive competitive advantage and support our strategic goals.
Of real importance, is your mindset and attitude, as we believe if someone has the curiosity, collaboration skills and drive then you will flourish in our environment. We know ads can have an exhaustive list of requirements, but the below list captures our ‘must haves’:
- Strong Data modelling & SQL (Teradata, Snowflake, and DBT preferably)
- Previous experience with BI tools - MicroStrategy and/or Power BI (we are open to other BI Tool experience too)
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to understand complex business requirements and turning them into solutions
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; enjoyment of working with colleagues from different business areas
- Retail experience would be a plus
- Someone who understands ‘customer’
We need people who are up for a challenge and committed to ‘helping Kiwis live better, every day.’
